Welcome to The UrbanBacon Bar

My name is Phil Novara, owner of UrbanBacon.  Consider this our internet handshake:)

I originally wanted to jump into social media and restaurants, but decided against it.  A background story is more appropriate for our first post:

Who am I?

Imagine a small boy with dreams of becoming a famous chef.  That’s me.  Helping my mother create home-style dishes everyday, constantly wanting to help.

At 15 I started washing dishes.  Late hours scrubbing and scrubbing for maybe $5.15/hr.  Not the most glamorous job, but I was in the kitchen.

From there I’ve rocked fine dining, wineries, and even pizza delivery.  Hell, I even slummed it at Ruby Tuesday (nothing wrong with that:)!

After deciding against pursuing a professional chef career, I found a new love.  People and marketing.  I was college bound working waiter jobs for money.

At 23 I graduated Mizzou and left the restaurant world to pursue a “career.”  That’s what every college graduate does, right?

One problem:  I find myself daydreaming of going back to the food industry.  Could you sit chained to a desk all day crunching numbers?

Along Came UrbanBacon

So here I sit.  At a desk.  Crunching numbers…

For 8 years I have worked in the food industry, helped my mother open 2 successful restaurants, and had developed a love for marketing/media.

I started thinking:   “How can I get back to what I love?  How can I find the best happy hours, local foods, and live bands in my city?  How can I help restaurants with marketing?”

UrbanBacon is born!

Ultimately, I want to help you guys win.  I want to put every local restaurant on the map.  It’s my way of getting in the industry from a different perspective.

What is this Blog About?

I am not hiding anything, UrbanBacon is a pay service for restaurants.  But I want this blog to function separately from that.  This is a home for people involved in the food industry.

This blog is a place to discuss trends, social media, and how technology can help your restaurant.  Feel free to praise or disagree=)

What to do NOW!

Start looking around.   Leave comments and start the discussion.  I am excited to hear from everyone involved in the restaurant industry:)

Thanks,

Phil Novara

Glad to see you’re finally up and running!

Thanks! I am excited to start rocking it out and helping some local restaurants/bars.

I am also not opposed to doing a marketing writeup for dive bars…sometimes a good dive needs to accept what they are and flaunt it:) Would you partake?
